English 304 is designed to help students gain experience with the types of writing and communication required in business settings. In this particular course, we’ll use the umbrella concept of creating a “micro enterprise” as a method for exploring how writing and communication operate in a business environment. That is, in this course students will participate in a team environment to research, design, and launch an actual enterprise. Students also have specific individual objectives such as a reflection and one test on fundamentals. Through this course, students can expect to achieve these objectives: 1. Significantly improve their writing and communication ability, including their understanding rhetorical and precise grammatical concepts and practices; 2. Understand and practice various types of communication that occur in business settings; 3. Practice editing and collaboration skills; 4. Develop research skills as they apply in business environments for composing communication products.
>> Project 3: Career Project
Your work on this project will increase your understanding of the field you might enter upon graduation, and, most importantly, your knowledge of how best to prepare yourself for that career, both academically and personally. If you have not yet chosen a career, this project will allow you to investigate a career option. Of course, there is also the possibility that you may decide the career you have chosen is not the one most appropriate or satisfying to you; if this happens, the project will still have served a valuable purpose. You will write a report on your findings.
