3rd Individual Project---Deliverable 1

By on

For the third individual project, I plan to create an image of a person getting a parking ticket. This sign will be placed all over Clemson's campus and the people on it will be similar to the people on the gender signs at public restrooms. The image I create will help to reinforce the areas around Clemson where people get the most parking tickets and it will be a unique change from the usual "no parking" or "only park between these hours" signs.

Chapter 4 Reading Response

Organization is defined as the way that information is displayed and the way that the viewers perceive the information. Proximity can be defined as the degree of "closeness" between objects displayed in the design. Objects that are placed farther away from each other have a greater proximity than those which are placed closer to each other. Finally, hierarchy is defined as the way that information is displayed, specifically relating to its importance. For example, an important piece of information is higher on the hierarchal scale than a less important piece of information.

Layering and Separation

By on

The phrase "layering and separation" is applicable to images specifically, because the colors of images need to be layered and separated in order for the image or design to be effective. In the example of the images of the figure doing the marshalling signals, the lights are bright orange, whereas the person is gray, which creates two different layers, helping the lights to stand out from the man. The color distinction also separates the man from the lights, as well.

Project 2-Deliverable 2 (Online Privacy)

By on

In my information graphic, I will visually represent two main aspects of my research about online privacy. First, I will focus on why parents are so concerned about their children’s activities online and, secondly, I will display their level of concernment of various categories. This second visual display will, in turn, reveal information about our culture today as the display will illustrate specific levels of concernment for various categories regarding online privacy.

Online Privacy

For my project, I have chosen the topic of online privacy between teens and parents. I'm going to focus on why parents are so concerned about their children's activities online as well as their level of concernment in various categories. This topic interests me because it has the potential to bring forward awareness to the things that deserve concern online and the percentages of the various categories can also tell something about our society today.

Envisioning Information- Most Important Principle

By on

In my opinion, the most important principle in Chapter 1 is the the arrangement of the the graph at the top of page 28. It depicts an ocean-eye view of Japan, documenting the weather forecasts for 15 areas in Japan. The images next to each city's name are extremely helpful because they are applicable specifically to visual learners. The design is very readable and it helps me understand information design because it shows the importance of organization in a design. This graph is very effective because of the organization of its design.

Quantitative Issues- Information Overload

By on

The following image advertises an automotive paint chip repair system, but it contains an information overload. The main problem with this advertisement is the amount of words. There are so many words crammed onto the advertisement that it becomes unappealing to readers. Although the words are not all in the same color (which is good), there are still too many of them and there is an overload of information, which leads to a high probability that the viewers won't even read the entire advertisement. Viewers want advertisements to be simple and straight to the point.
