Satiric Self-Critique

By on

I think it's funny that Microsoft was comparing itself to it's biggest rival company and obviously valuing the other's design principles. Beneath the sarcasm was a real sense of humility which is cool for big companies. I think they were obviously emphasizing apple's simplistic, some would say "artsy" design over Microsoft's somewhat cheesy, over bearing design. Feature creep and information overload make packaging, or any technical writing, overwhelming for the reader.

Dove Beauty Campaign

Eliza Larkin and Abigail Mayes

Dove, a skin and haircare brand, needed a PR boost in the early 2000's. In a world where disdain for media beauty standards and stigmas of women is growing and growing, Dove recognized an opportunity to become a major beauty product company with a more responsible mission.

So they conducted research: in 2004 only 2% of the world's female population considered themselves beautiful.

Adobe Muse Research

Through Adobe's help website, I learned all of the basic functions of Adobe Muse. For example I can now start a new website, plan the basic structure of that website, create a master page, add elements to the master page, use widgets within the app, add text, images, slide shows, and other media, create interactive elements, and publish the site. I also learned about responsive design- that is designing a website that responds according to the screen size of the end user. In other words, you can design a page that looks different to someone on a desktop than someone on a smartphone.

Intellectual property protection and copyrights are important because ideas often translate into a person's means of living. Capitalist society can't survive unless the individual has protection over their ideas.

What steps can you take to protect your own intellectual property or copyrights?

I think my LinkedIn page is pretty complete. It's information expands upon my print resume. My about me section summarizes some main points from my resume with a more personal point of view. I'm not sure I have a main concern, but I'm also not very active on LinkedIn so I may not be accessing all of its capabilities and welcome any constructive feedback.

Documentation Proposal

By on

I'm going to document Adobe Muse, a freeform website building platform that doesn't require coding. I chose this because building a website could be a good way to build my digital identity and showcase some of my writings. Also, beyond my middle school MySpace days, I haven't the slightest idea about coding. One last thing caught my eye about this app- responsive design. I've never heard of this before, but it seems interesting and I'd like to learn more about it.
