Reading Response 6

I think that this video is a very accurate depiction of poor packaging and design decisions. I know that Microsoft has always severely contrasted with Apple in terms of their design decisions—especially back when this video was produced. The major design principle that this video is emphasizing is the concept that less is more. The original box design is minimalist resulting in the readers eye being drawn to only one thing—the product. On the other hand, the "Microsoft" design lacks any kind of order or unity and the result is udder chaos.

❏ Does the draft have the right amount and kinds of information,
considering your readers’ experience and knowledge?

Yes, since I'm catering to readers who may not have a lot of experience with the adobe suite, I was sure to be detailed.

❏ Does the draft reveal that you know what you are talking about? Will
readers trust you and believe your information is accurate? (These are
questions about ethos; see page 11.)

After browsing the web and several of my textbooks from former graphics textbooks, I have learned a lot about the implementation of the 5 principles of design. I have also learned about the purpose of each principle and how better to apply them in various situations.

1. Rhythm
Design elements that convey motion. Theses elements are used in conjunction with emphasis in order to draw the readers eye to major parts of the piece.

There are numerous reasons why I think it is necessary for authors and creators to protect their intellectual property. The number one reason is obviously to prevent others from stealing their work. This issue is especially close to me as a graphic designer. I hope to one day build a career around content that I create and knowing how much time and effort that can go into creating something, I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to see someone get credit for your creation.
