The #ShareYourEars campaign was launched by Disney in honor of the 100,000th Disney wish from the Make-A-Wish foundation. Participants in the campaign were encouraged to post pictures wearing Mickey Mouse ears, whether they were the traditional ones bought in Disneyland or some other interpretation. For every picture tagged with #ShareYourEars, Disney pledged to donate five dollars, up to the amount of one million dollars. The hashtag #ShareYourEars originally had a pledge of one million dollars from Disney, but due to the huge wave of support across the world, the pledge has since been doubled to two million dollars. All money raised by the campaign will go to the Make-A-Wish foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening diseases. The campaign uses the popular technological trend of “hashtagging” to raise awareness and gather support, since Disney is the number one request of children through the foundation. The #ShareYourEars campaign successfully uses social media to raise awareness for an important issue.
