Reading Response Prompt 2

1) I am not a very active user on any social media. I post an Instagram every once in a while but that is the only social media I post things to. I sometimes like pictures or articles on Facebook but that is the extent of my activity. Most of the things that are on my profile for Facebook are stuff that I am tagged in like pictures or videos. I wouldn't say that Facebook is a professional network for me and my profile doesn't have anything professional on it. It also doesn't have anything bad that I can think of.

In today's society, the widespread use of technology is growing exponentially and as students such as myself prepare to enter into the job market, it is important that we begin to learn about and manage our digital identity and ethos. My online presence is vast and varied with most of it residing within the confines of social media websites. Twitter is mostly grab bag of tweets form other people that I've found funny or interesting while my Instagram is comprised of images from some of the most memorable highlights of my life.

Job Skills

1. Operating Equipment—As part of my Co-Op that began last spring, I am required to be able to operate things such as robotic welders, forklifts, maintenance tools, etc.
2. Interacting with People at Different Levels—With the many jobs and internships that I have held, I have come in contact with people of all backgrounds. At Professional Party Rentals I worked effectively with a good many high school dropouts while at Britt, Peters & Associates, I was able to communicate with and assist Professional Engineers.

Reading Response Prompt 2

I really do not post too much on social media, and whatever I do, I make sure that it is something that I would not mind anyone seeing. When searching myself, my Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest came up. Images brought up a profile picture and a few images from my Pinterest account. I did not find anything when I searched the news section on Google. I learned that many of my pins from Pinterest come up when someone does an image search of my name. It is not a problem, but it is just another thing that I will be more aware of in the future.

Now that technology has become so prominent in the working world, maintaining a professional online identity is crucial to the way that outsiders view you. It is very easy to look someone up on a social media site, having no connection with them, and still be able to get a feel for what their personality and interests are like. While it is great to be just one click away from your friends and colleagues, one simple picture or post to a social networking site can ruin your reputation and possibly your career. To maintain a positive ethos, I keep my privacy settings relatively strict.

My Skills

1. Assembling Apparatus- I have always liked to work with my hands and that includes taking things apart and putting it back together. Professionally, at one of my summer internships, I was in charge of creating and assembling new parts for robots.

2. Speakng to the Public- At every internship I've had, I have given a final presentation to a group of people within the company, most of which I had never met. I have also given sermons at my church that involve speaking to the whole congregation. I enjoy having myself heard by the public and don't mind public speaking.
