Chapter 4, Designing Information

Important lessons learned throughout the readings

1) Importance of Hierarchy, while layering and ordering information it is critical that the individual organizes in a way that list the information from greater importance and ending with the information that isn't as sufficient or important.

2) Importance of Proximity, group together topics, ideas, themes with one other. According to proximity individuals will group together ideas that are shown and shared next to each other and will disassociate items that are listed further away from each other.

3) Importance of Organization, make sure the outline is clear and concise, use proper spacing, if deciding to use color make sure themes match. In every aspect of the information graphic make the document as easy and simple as possible to read and understand. Organization is one of the most important and under-rated lessons.

Bad Practices: I am currently going through paperwork to become a transient student and the paper work for the local college is beyond ridiculous. There is not enough room for my given address and the space given for the income and pricing are too small, just a form that needs to be worked on.

All three of your points are

All three of your points are great summaries of organization, proximity and hierarchy. That form is horrible. I definitely agree that the spacing and proximity were not well thought out.

I understand

I understand, the ambiguity of college forms can be strenuous. After going through multiple paper work of various forms an individual has another form they have to fill out for college. The process is ongoing, so to reduce the the paperwork a clear hierarchy needs to be established with an organized form system.
