Project 2 Deliverable 2

I have decided to include data from many different sources, such as the Pew Research Center, The Newspaper Association of America, and The State of the Media. I will create an infographic sort of like the Information is Beautiful graphics, combining various forms of representation: bar graphs, pie charts, 2d pyramids, pictures with labeling, etc.

For my second project I would like to make an infographic using InDesign. I'm a shaky hand at it but I think if I can get into the program for a significant amount of time over the next few weeks I should be able to get better. I'm going to use fun colors and interesting graphics (creative pie charts, stick people filled up halfway, etc.) to liven the data up. I think there's a lot to be represented but should be interesting to see graphically.

W-- Form of Infographic

Because most information is read either from right to left, or top to bottom, my infographic will show a progression. I will begin with a graph that shows how the teen pregnancy rate has changed over time. Then, I will talk about the reasons for teen pregnancy despite the innovations of contraception (I may use another chart/graph to compare the availability of contraceptions or a graph/chart describing what teens do when they find out they are pregnant).

My initial idea was to depict how activities on cell phones have changed over a five year period. The problem I found when looking at the Excel spreadsheet, though, is that data points are absent for several categories. Data isn't available for every year, which is problematic. For this reason, I've decided to examine other variables in the report on cell phone activities. I will no longer be depicting how cell phone activities have changed over time. Rather, I will illustrate cell phone activities only for the year 2012.

Project 2 Trendy Shoes

By on

My question is to ask when various trendy shoes peaked within the past decade. I would like to show if the shoes are still popular, if they are becoming less popular or if they are going strong. I think it is interesting to see trends come and go. And footwear seems like something that is interesting to me because of what it allows or hinders people from doing activity wise. I plan to use google trends to data since 2004 on shoes like, Toms, Timberland boots, Chacos, and others. I plan to identify the year in which each shoe met it's peak trending searches on the Google search engine.
